Released off the back of their 12th consecutive year at the Edinburgh Fringe festival, Could It Be? encapsulates the versatility and innovation of The Oxford Gargoyles. Opening with "Groove Choon" - an original groove-based wordless composition whose musical phrases are punctuated purely by jazzy "scat" syllables - the album explores an impressive range of material, from fresh arrangements of jazz standards like "Misty" to soul mash-ups and musical numbers as well as operatic arias ("Bess, Oh Where's My Bess"). What's more, all of these stunning arrangements were written in a period of just nine months, exclusively by members of the group!
